Tibet House organised a ten-day Tibetan Cultural Festival entitled
‘Compassion and Reincarnation in Tibetan Art’ at Bangalore from March
1 to 10, 2002. Former Chief Minister Ramakrishna Hegde inaugurated the festival at the
Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath Art Complex. The festival included: an exhibition
of rare and exquisite Thangka paintings; a two-day musical concert entitled ‘Echoes of the
World Festival of Sacred Music’ performing Tibetan folk dances and traditional
music and monastic music; a six-day workshop on ‘Buddhist Chanting and
Music’; and concluded with a two-day seminar ‘Towards a Culture of Peace’. Prior to the Tibetan Cultural Festival, Tibet House
arranged a two-day Dharma Discourse on ‘Three Principal Aspects of the Path to Enlightenment’ by the Most Venerable Ugyen Tseten Rinpoche
at The Study Centre, Krishnamurti Foundation India.

As part of Tibet House’s endeavor to promote intercultural and interreligious
understanding, another festival to showcase the living tradition
of Tibetan Buddhism, medicine, astrology and sacred art was held in
collaboration with The World Buddhist Culture Trust from August 17
to 24, 2003 in Bangalore. Shri T.N. Chaturvedi, Governor of Karnataka,
inaugurated the festival at the Indian Institute of World Culture. During
the weeklong festival there were also film shows, free consultations by a
Tibetan physician, a workshop on monastic chanting, and three concerts
of monastic dance and chanting by the monks of the Tashi Dhargye
Monastery at different venues.
